I used to live in Lincolnshire. We've driven over it a few times, but have never explored or took into account the wildlife around the area, fascinating. Really interesting, thankyou!
Really enjoyed this Angie. The bridge has been a landmark of my life too! I even abseiled from it once...
I was born in Hull, and my whole family are from there. I grew up with my mum telling me the story that my grandfather used to believe in the 'man in the moon' but he never believed they would be able to build a bridge over the River Humber!! I think about that every single time I drive under it.
Wow - abseiled - that's far too adventurous for me, lol.
Yes, its funny - I have walked over the bridge lots of times, and driven far more, but I still feel a bit apprehensive every time. I once watched a programme about how they monitor the giant cables by listening for 'pops' as the tiny fibres within the cables break. Apparently it was built to last 120 years, and has now been open over 40, so it should be safe for a while yet 😊
I courted and married a girl from Scunthorpe. But I did a lot of my growing up in Kilnsea. Fished a lot. I drove from Scunthorpe to Kilnsea once before the bridge opened and dug lugworms in the Humber at Spurn. Fished and then drove back. Never again! Terrible journey. 🤣
I haven’t actually been to Kilnsea, but do drive to Spurn Point occasionally. It always seems a long trek after Hull. Certainly the area around Scunthorpe is not very pretty :-)
I enjoy reading your photo essays and learning about different areas of England. Thank you for your photos. I haven’t walked across the Golden Gate Bridge but I used to drive across it.

Fabulous story, thank you for sharing, Angie 👏
Thanks for the great story on the history of the bridge. It sounds like a wonderful area to visit.

Nope. Not Yorkshire. 😊
Great read and images.
I well remember traveling up to I think it was Booth ferry to cross pre bridge
Ah yes, I also remember going across the Boothferry bridge. The ferry from New Holland was more fun though (at least as a child!)
Never did the ferry Angie
