I heard seals singing off Lindisfarne. I had just completed the St Cuthbert Way from Melrose to Lindisfarne, over 5 days, with my daughter and a friend. We stayed overnight on Lindisfarne. All the day trippers had gone, the causeway was closed by the tide, and there was a magical sunset. The only word I can find to describe the seals' song is "eldritch".
What an amazing place! I would love to see it. Will you report on the term colony at some point?
Thanks so much. I am looking forward to visiting in the autumn when there should be many more seals.
It is difficult to get close to the tern colony because the beach is closed off in the summer when they are breeding. Which is a good thing :-)
We have harbour seals here at Loch Fleet and a small number of greys. Fascinating to watch.
Those wonderful empty Aberdeenshire beaches!

I agree - I am pleased I knew where the sound was originating or I would have been more than a little spooked!
