I enjoyed following you on this walk Angie. A great read. Although distant it was lovely to see your barnacle verses. When I see them flying over the Solway they remind me of Sir Peter Scott paintings.
Thank you - I was really looking forward to seeing the barnacle geese. We are going to visit WWT Caerlaverock next week, so I am hoping to get closer, and also see lots of whooper swans :-)
No, we haven't visited Caerlaverock before (neither the WWT centre or the National Nature Reserve), but we have visited RSPB Mersehead once earlier this year.
I think there are a few at Burgh-by-Sands, but I haven't seen them.
Your experience with the deer running past you reminded me of an experience I had in a reserve in Yorkshire once. Matt and I were sat next to each other on a bench in an open hide when a kingfisher flew between us, and its wing brushed against my ear. Matt didn't even notice - he still thinks I imagined it, lol :-)
Great photos Angie. I adore the robin! It's interesting to see how different it is now from when we visited in June. Then it was all wildflower meadows full of butterflies and dragonflies. Birds were whitethroat, linnet, osprey, swallows, martins. A roe deer raced right past me at top speed- not sure which of us was the most alarmed! I need to re-visit in the winter!
Thanks so much Linda - I was worried that my photos were not doing it justice (I need a long lens, lol).
I thought that the meadows must be wonderful for wildflowers and butterflies in the summer - unfortunately we should have moved on before next summer. If you do get the chance to visit in winter I can definitely recommend it - I am sure the wildfowl numbers will increase a lot as the fields get more flooded.
What a gorgeous area! Lovely captures, especially the composition of the first image and that great robin shot 😍
Thanks so much :-)

I guess you have visited before?
RSPB Mersehead is also worth a visit.

It is a great reserve. (WWT) You will enjoy it.
Also thank you for the info re clay dabbins! I'm not knowledgeable about these at all despite being West Cumbrian!
OMG! I’m going searching for kingfishers tomorrow! Hope I can be so lucky 🍀
Lol - these things always happen when you expect them least :-)
