Thank you Lesley. After reading your post about moving to the caravan on Skye I suspect our move will be a lot easier than yours. It is always stressful, though, not knowing where you are going. But like you I am sure it will be more than worth it :-)
Good luck with the move Angie. When we sold our home in France in 2020, we rented just outside Dumfries, (Auldgirth just on the river Nith - loved your photo, a wonderful river) we were tempted to live in Dumfries and Galloway, for all the reasons you mention, it’s a spectacular place. We didn’t have a choice of places to rent, we were in France, Covid was in full swing, and literally no one would rent a property to us from a Scottish estate agency without us viewing it first! We found one property being managed by a Carlisle agent, whose owners lived in Spain and took it unseen! We just needed storage for all our stuff really. In the end it was Argyll that we fell for and have never regretted despite many challenges renovating a very tired house.
Thanks so much for your reply, Sarah - it is really interesting hearing from other people who have moved to this wonderful area. Argyll is already on our radar as we stayed near Dunoon a few years ago and loved the forest walks and ferry journeys in the area. It really depends on where we find the house we want.
It’s happening! There are benefits to renting in the area (or staying in static home) before you buy. You can assess what places are like ‘inside’ and maybe hear about property coming on the market on the grapevine. A lot of people who move to our village have done that before they buy.
It's excellent - essential reading! Dalbeattie features strongly. I used to work in that region and developed a great respect for its rural culture. Good luck with your move!
Wow, Angie. If it is Dumfries and Galloway then it is bootiful. My sister and son moved there over 40 years ago and we have visited almost every year since.
It is a very special part of the world. We now visit the Rhinns of Galloway every winter for a birding session and do the Solway.
My sister and Brother-in-law live just north of Lockerbie.
Thanks. We are really hoping to find somewhere around Castle Douglas/Dalbeattie. We definitely want easy access to the Solway Coast (but with sea levels rising perhaps not too close). Like you we have visited and loved this area for many years :-)
What an adventure. We did this ourselves in our late fifties and never looked back. Enjoy the ride and finding new parts of yourselves!

I’m sure that it will. New experiences bring a new sense of life 🥂

Hope you are recovering after your operation :-)

Yes, it also means we will be cash buyers and able to move quickly when we find the right house :-)
Congratulations! Exciting times lie ahead!
Yes - and a little bit scary:-)
Good luck! I can totally understand your priorities.
Thanks!
My Mother-in-Law lives in Dumfries and Galloway. Its stunning. Fingers crossed you find the perfect place for you both.
Thanks, Linda - at least it is fun looking :-)
Galloway is very special. Have you read 'Native' by Patrick Laurie?
Thanks. No, I haven’t - but it sounds inspirational :-)

How exciting for you both, happy home hunting 🏡
Thank you very much :-)
Good luck - you'll be fine and your reasons make a lot of sense.
Thanks so much :-)
