I love this photo because it portrays the stillness and quietness that sometimes occurs in woods on calm winter days.
In other seasons woods are never so quiet. There is birdsong, which is of course beautiful, and the slightest breeze causes rustling in the leaves and branches.
Walking in woods in winter is a totally different experience. The silence can be almost eerie. But for someone like me who finds constant noise stressful it can be magical and therapeutic.
I took this photo in Skipwith Common National Nature Reserve in North Yorkshire, England, on a very calm late winter morning.
