There is always magic to be found in woods, whatever time of year you visit.
Spring has the vibrant greens of fresh new leaves and the frenzy of birdsong. Summer has lush green canopies and welcome shade from the scorching sun. And of course autumn brings splendid gold and brown colors and crisp fallen leaves.
But I also love walking in woods in winter. There is a special kind of silence in the woods on a calm winter day, when there are no leaves to rustle in the breeze. The birds are quieter, but more visible without the leaf cover. And the trees show their true forms so you can truly appreciate the extent of their twisted branches.
I am lucky to have several lovely woods within easy distance of my home just outside York, England. Here is a selection of photos I have taken on recent winter strolls, in no particular order.
You can see more of my photographs in my Picfair Gallery where you can purchase downloads and prints in various formats.
Nice pictures! I, too, love to walk in a wintery wood, with gray skies and mud allover, but too in a splendid wintery scenery!
Beautiful. I love Allerthorpe Woods! We really do live in a glorious part of the world (in my humble opinion) ❤️🌳
