The Tulip Festival at Burnby Hall Gardens
A colourful annual festival in East Yorkshire, England
One of my favourite gardens to visit is Burnby Hall Gardens in Pocklington, East Yorkshire.
The gardens are particularly known for their waterlily collection on two picturesque lakes, one of which is home to a large population of fish who just love to be fed. (Bags of fish food are available to purchase from the gift shop.)
There is also a wonderful evolving rock garden, a stumpery, a small aviary, many beautiful old trees and lovely formal laid out flower beds.
Each year from late April to early May Burnby Hall holds a two-week Tulip Festival. During this event the gardens are filled with literally thousands of tulips in various containers and flower beds all around the gardens. The event showcases the beauty and diversity of these lovely flowers.
The tulip varieties and displays are different each year, so there is always something new to see. It is a really colourful event which has become more popular with visitors every year.
The photos here are compiled from several visits in different years.
This year’s (2025) festival runs until May 10th, although many of the tulips will still be flowering and on display when the festival has finished.
You can see further details on the Events page of the Burnby Hall Website, together with location details and admission fees for the gardens.
Thanks for the gorgeous photos. I thoroughly enjoyed the essay and all the color!!! It's just tulip season in New England so you've inspired me to plant a pot or two.
Simply heavenly! Tulips are majestic 🌷
