Thanks, Melissa. Being able to grow veggies was one of the main reasons we wanted a large garden (together with solitude), and I was determined to get straight on with it, but I didn't expect to be so successful yet!
Is it very hot in Yorkshire? It is absolutely baking in our back garden - difficult to believe we are in the north of Scotland!
Hi Angie, yes it is! I just had to do a massive emergency evacuation of plants from the polytunnel. It’s just too hot for anything other than chillies and peppers right now. It’s crazy!
Yes, I spent a big part of the day watering and spraying plants in the greenhouse and conservatory trying to stop them wilting - though I definitely was wilting myself! I am hoping tomorrow will be a little cooler :-)
Very impressive! There seems to be a lot of growth in potatoes this year. I'm regular potato grower, and mine are very leafy. You'll probably find that you're harvesting peas before the tatties are ready, tho it depends on whether you've planted early, maincrop or late potatoes.
Very envious of your spinach. Is the bed in part shade? I grew amazing spinach on our Edinburgh allotment which was shaded for part of the day, but in my exposed, non-shaded and light soil garden in Moray it bolts before I can harvest any leave.
Thanks. The potatoes shown here are all earlies, but they are not quite ready yet.
As for the spinach, I have never succeeded with it before, so I sowed far too much hoping to get a few leaves. There are tall trees all around the garden, so there was some shade earlier in the year, but now it is more or less in full sun all day. It has now bolted and I will be pulling the last of it up today to sow some more carrots. The varieties were Amazon and Apollo, and they are both really good.
How excellent! It is always SO surprising how much soil it takes to fill raised beds. And just when you think you have topped them up, they settle and look half empty again by fall. Next year you will likely have to add more material, but in the meantime, what gorgeous crops!
Excellent progress! I'm very impressed you've found the time to grow veggies successfully with all the other work you must have going on :-)

Thanks. Yes, I am expecting them to settle, but hopefully I will have some compost to top them up with by then :-)
What amazing success 🌱
Thanks so much :-)
